The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have launched a Consultation on implementing new Workplace Exposure Limits which relates to the implementation of Directive 2017/164/EU introducing a new list of Indicative Occupational Exposure Limit Values (IOELVs).

Directive 2017/164/EU, adopted on 31 January 2017, introduces new or revised exposure limits for 31 substances to help reduce the adverse health effects of exposure to hazardous substances in the workplace. The Consultation aims to establish Workplace Exposure Limits for the substances listed, to be adopted in England, Scotland and Wales.

Currently, there are 115 IOELVs for hazardous substances listed in three Directives (Directive 2000/39/EC, Directive 2006/15/EC and Directive 2009/161/EC). In the UK these limit values are transposed as Workplace Exposure Limits (WELs) through an amendment to the HSE publication EH40 – Workplace exposure limits.

The Consultation is open for responses from 10 November 2017 until 2 February 2018.

The preferred way to respond is by completing the online questionnaire.

Alternatively, the completed questionnaire can be sent by email or post to the addresses provided on the HSE website.
